St John Family Photography: Grandma’s house

Our lives are made up of a series of stories, patterns, and cycles we have been living out and repeating. Even when our memories fade the subconscious holds fragments. That’s why a song, a smell, a place, or a photograph holds so much power to unlock the love, joy, and bliss in that moment of time. Letting go of an heirloom can be freeing, but also takes courage. I was honored to capture the Walker Family during the last visit to Grandma’s house on St John, US Virgin Islands. Her garden and the handmade details especially for Christmas time unlock so many beautiful nostalgic memories for them. To memorialize the occasion before they let her home go they dreamed of capturing some photographs in this family space.
