Keep Calm In The Chaos
First, let’s begin with why it is so important to remain clear, calm, and grounded in your authority during moments or seasons of chaos and upheaval. — When you hold the power to be level-headed and in complete control of your emotions, you have the strongest ability to navigate yourself and the people you love with wisdom to the best possible outcome. As the leader of your life, your family, and your community, your nervous system sets the tone for everyone else around you. If you panic and unravel in a state of heightened emotions, you will also create the ripple effect of those fearful feelings.
Breath is your superpower.
Notice while you are watching a suspenseful movie that during the parts that someone springs up, the music is playing, creating anticipation. If you pay attention to your breath, the first thing that happens is holding or a pause. It’s a fawn response to slow your breathing, but this shallow breathing also induces anxiety. So, to alleviate the tightening in your chest when things get wild, take slow, controlled breaths, hold for a 4 count, then exhale. Do this repeatedly until you feel the ease take over your body.
Genesis 2:7 (NIV) – Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.
→ A biblical reminder that our very breath is a divine gift from God. Each inhale connects us to the life He has given us.
Ground yourself safely into your body and connect to God with your whole heart and mind — do not disassociate or leave your body.
You can do this practice anywhere on an airplane when turbulence hits. Or you are in the midst of a chaotic moment. Close your eyes for a couple of seconds and visualize roots growing from the bottom of your feet through the ground into the depths of Earth imagine a green light coming up from her. This is comforting for your body, repeat to yourself; I am safe here. safe to be in my body. Then imagine the light that glows from your heart space and connects to the greatest light, the biggest source above. God’s light — that is even brighter than the sun. All that to wash over you, protecting you.
John 8:12 (NIV) – When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.’
→ The glowing light in your heart that connects to God’s great light symbolizes His divine guidance and presence.
Listen with discernment, God will show you the way and speak to you when chaos is loud.
Keeping a clear and open channel to the voice of God will help guide you to higher ground when the seas get rough. Anxiety will sound like a yelling, rushed urgency. God speaks quietly, like a calm whisper.
Isaiah 30:21 (NIV) – “Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.’”
→ God will always guide you, even in the midst of uncertainty.
